Knitting Ministry

Church Member, Sue Preslar, began the Prayer Shawl Ministry in 2004 with the help of the late Vivian Norwood.   They began making prayer shawls for members of our church who had suffered loss or were shut-ins. A couple of years later, they added baby blankets for new babies in the congregation and also added extended family and community members. Vivian passed away, and Sue kept the ministry going as new people joined.

Since that time, the ministry has evolved to provide baby hats and chemo hats for our hospital; patriotic lapghans for our Hospice house; outreach to the needy in the Appalachias; hat and mittens sets to backpack kids in our schools; scarves for the orphanage we sponsor in Africa; bird nests for the Wildlife rescue; and on and on. We are constantly busy and we try not to turn down any request.

We welcome new members to the group who can knit or crochet, and if they are beginners, we try to help them along. We pray over the items we make before they are given because we feel this ministry is called by God.

We currently meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 2:30 PM in the Parlor Room.  Please note: if the Monday falls on a holiday, the group will meet on Monday of the followin week (January meetings will be January 8th and 22nd since the 1st and 15th are holidays).
