The Preschool Program at First Presbyterian Church seeks to provide what we believe is the best possible nurturing and educational environment for children.  Using the Bible, The Creative Curriculum and Hand Writing without Tears, children in our program are offered an opportunities to meet a variety of Christian, educational, physical, social and emotional goals.  The bible basis of our program will plant seeds for a Christian faith in a child’s heart for a lifetime.  In a Christian environment, through healthy play and fun work, children learn the basics in Christian faith, literacy, math, science social studies, the arts and technology.  Our goal is to instill a love for learning as early as possible.

We believe that each child is a unique Creation of our Father God deserving of respect and love.  We seek, not to hurry the child through his/her stages of development, but rather to maximize potential of stage so that full growth may be attained as the foundation for life and learning is built.  We provide an environment that allows experiences in language arts, numbering, social studies, science, music, art, health and safety, and physical education.  This entire experience takes place in a Christian atmosphere with loving, nurturing teachers that strive to maintain a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will minister not only to the children but also to you, the caregiver.

Your child will participate in a variety of activities such as:

•Telling age appropriate Bible stories by staff, having blessing each day at lunch time and daily prayer.
•Working with paints, clay, crayons, blocks, and other materials.
•Enjoying stories, poetry, finger plays, and books.
•Learning to share, take turns, work and play with others.
•Learning to have fun through music, singing, musical instruments, and listening to different kinds of music.
•Enjoying God’s world both inside and outside, here at First Presbyterian and on appropriate field trips.  Play is the work of childhood.
•Being introduced to number concepts, alphabet, calendar, and other age appropriate academic skills.
•The programs of the school will be based on the philosophy of having a child development program:  The physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual aspects of a child’s life and all aspects to be nurtured as a whole.  Emphasis will be placed on the total being of the child to help them to develop good self- image.  They will learn through being active, through having close personal interaction with his or her peers as well as adults, and through play by being in an environment set up for learning.  Emphasis will be placed on meaningful experiences, which will touch on the child’s personal life.
